I definitely relate to the liberation you feel in being able to speak @L12 . I grew up in a household that never showed emotion. That never discussed mental health. For years I didn't know how to speak about it.
It was these very forums that taught me it's okay to speak about not being okay. In the past, not being okay was frowned upon.
I am still working to speak openly, but I know I am freeing myself each time I speak out.

That sounds really challenging to have that environment. Sounds like you have shown a lot of self awareness and personal growth to be able to speak up.

That's the beauty of it @L12 - i DO see the growth I have made, and I think that is what keeps me going.
And now, as a peer support worker, I see how I can influence growth in others - This is what I thrive on. This is what I wake up to each day.
Growth and growing pains are not pleasant, but the results are astonishing.

Hi L12
Sounds like you are making progress.
This is my first time at 70 to have to be medicated, and before did not understand depression , i think the hardest thing is to get famiy or others to understand.
Has anyone got any suggestions to help me getting out of bed, as i feel better after that?
God bless all.

Hi,
I am sorry family and friends are not understanding or supportive of you at present. I am glad you have mentioned this on the forum. My family don't understand and I can't say this will change. It's made me feel so alone and resigned knowing I will get the standard response of snap out of it, or you are just wallowing or attention seeking. People suffering depression know that responses from family such as the ones I have mentioned are absolute misconceptions. I also wanted to say you need the positive in your life, so if this means limiting contact with family I feel it will help your mental health and wellbeing. I have found there are some very lovely and supportive people here. It feels good to express my real feelings about my depression here.
May I ask if you are able to get enough sleep? I know when I have not had enough sleep, motivation in the morning is so low. I feel enough sleep improves my mood and energy levels. I also meditate before I fall asleep. I hope these ideas may help you.

Hello!
I thought it was worth making a quick introduction.
I've been living with mental health issues for as long as I can remember. Over the last year or so I've been trying to work through things properly but it's quickly gotten more complicated than I initially thought.
I'm looking forward to sharing experiences and contributing as I learn more about myself. Thank you for maintaining this space โค๏ธ
