Re: Life can be a Pain

Yes my mumma bear @Owlunar

Mr shaz seems to go so far amd then the meds don't seem to work anymore

Then he get reassessed and then new meds for a little while xx

I think he would like a real diagnosis but not getting one

Re: Life can be a Pain

I often wonder @Shaz51 - if there is a really accurate diagnosis for mental illness - it seems to me to be very complex and a name is just a name - yeah?

What he needs is a solution - and that would be great - and this is a very difficult situation.

There is so much I just don't understand about mental illness - and I have had reactive depression in the past - and I was lucky to have a good psychiatrist and no medication.

So - if it's not straight forward - and so hard to deal with - to live with -

Re: Life can be a Pain

Very true my mumma bear ❤️ @Owlunar

And like me with kidney disease and lots of other complications to go with makes it worse

I am relising there is no real accurate diagnosis for MH , just a combination of them thrown  together

@Jynx , what do you think 🤔

Re: Life can be a Pain

@Shaz51 @Owlunar I think humans are way more complex than any set of diagnostic criteria can possibly describe. I also think the DSM is supposed to be more like 'guidelines for treatment' than a categorically perfect explanation of mental health. I also think that more often than not, it comes back to trauma - as well as a person's environment, upbringing, social and cultural context, and genetics. It's why two people with the exact same diagnoses can have vastly different experiences of mental health complexities. And also why treatment will be different for everyone too. It's a super complicated thing for sure.

Re: Life can be a Pain

You're right @Jynx - and this is true of many things. I have chronic pain and know the varied nature of everything makes it hard to treat and -

Darn it - mental illness and chronic pain can only be managed - rarely cured.

My pain specialist recently asked me what is different about me - interesting question - and the answer is complex.

Basically - I told him that I am not at all passive in my management regime - and since then I have thought about it more and it is vastly complex.

I am writing about this and it is taking time - it's complicated - as indeed it is for people with mental illness - I am proactive myself - and I also think that's easy for me but really hard for some people and people with some mental illness issues are very much in the dark about all or at least most of it. This is so hard.

We can only work through it - there's no short-cuts - and alas - all we can do is accept the past and go into an unseen future.

I wish people the best though

Re: Life can be a Pain

I think you've nailed it @Owlunar - when talking about mh 'recovery' during my studies we learned about the fact that it's good to look at it as more of a lifetime journey of learning rather than some eventual destination of curing. The pain and traumas from my past aren't going away, but I have learned how to manage better and gotten to a point where the triggers impact me less and less, but they still exist. Those experiences shaped me and there's no cure for experience. Chronic pain is similar, all about learning new ways of living and managing.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊

Hi everyone - I got the all clear from the surgeon last week - and I have three months until the next part of the procedure which will be much easier.

Right now - I have a new pest controller dealing with my possum problem - he's putting a trapdoor in my roof to let the possums out - then they can't get in again. This is a relief. btw - there was no dead possum there - no one needs dead animals in their roof void. No!

My daughter rang me on Saturday - she was actually quite civil - it was a good conversation - I still feel like protecting my boundaries - I guess that's a part of life. I am sure her husband is well aware of what's happening.

All the best everyone

Re: Life can be a Pain

..onwards and upwards @Owlunar  .. reminds me having possums or whatever in ceiling in caravan used to drive me nuts , they would dig around light fittings trying to get in. Had to put extra screws around light fittings ha ha. was there like 9 months , management talked about getting rid of them, never happened

Re: Life can be a Pain

I'm sorry you had animal problems in your caravan @TAB - and of course the management promised to help - also I am not surprised they didn't.

One would imagine the authorities would be concerned about the health issues with rats - but they are not - just get onto a pest exterminator - I was told - but those pesky rats are breeding fast and keep coming back for the bait.

And today the man putting stuff in my roof to stop possums from getting in but letting them out can't bail the roof for rats - possums are protected - but when the possums have gone - he will come back and add to the rat bait already there.

I could get another cat - I would love another cat - it would be hard though with my impaired shoulder - I can think about it -

I just had a brilliant idea - that some chemist could invent a noxious spray that could smell like a cat that would deter the rats.

Thanks Tabby Cat - I hope your aches etc. are not too demanding - we are having a lovely day in Melbourne - I don't know about where you are -

All the best

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hey @Owlunar Good you are getting through these challenges.

Good you are getting a little respect from your daughter.  You deserve it.

Just had a weird call from a doctor calling himself a senior specialist in local clinic, asking me about "my health".  Said he was calling all seniors in my area.  Asked me about supplements and numbness and tingling in my feet.  I Said I did a lot of physio including feet exercises.  Talk about aggressive marketing tho.  He was polite and doctory, but canvassing for patients ?!? ... our old health care system, was more ethical about advertising etc.
