Re: My Take on Meditation - non-mystic

Re: My Take on Meditation - non-mystic

@Harmonium

Moving meditation is fantastic!

I used to train martial arts and when I did kata/forms, or even just followed a stretching routine, I'd often find myself going into a highly focused and aware state.  Sometimes coupled with intense revelations or emotional release. (is that weird?)

If you like the idea that your brain can do multiple tasks at once, go ahead and google: "Harry Kahne" and his multiple mentality training.

This guy could hold a conversation while writing, in cursive, upside down, with one hand, and solve maths problems with the other!

I have spent a lot of time 'training' my brain to strengthen my prefrontal cortex to manage impulse control.  I'm not sure it's given me the 'powers' I hoped it would, but it may be a reason I'm not more nuts than I currently am! 🤣

Keep up the stretching and yoga.  And great work with the parenting... making order from chaos there, that's for sure! 😉

Hello @KirSa_EnigmA

I googled Harry Kahne and wow! Thanks for that rabbit hole. I enjoyed learning about his methods. Cool stuff. Brain training is wonderful and had changed my life. I feel so grateful we don’t have to remain stuck and that we can improve with practice. Much more positive than the Freuidian outlook that marred the earlier years of my life. I’ve enjoyed some online brain training games too, and they helped me improve my maths. Most fun had with Lumosity and Elevate.

Of course, nothing tops active training and I know the emotional release you raised too. All sorts of things happen when I’m in that state like with thai chi I seem to feel like I tap into some greater fountain of wisdom - like in a good way. Sometimes it feels like a movie. The best is at dawn but I can’t get my sleep right for dawn training at the moment…but it’s a worthy goal to work towards.
Just wanted to thank you for sharing and wishing you a good week.

You're very welcome @Harmonium

I'm glad you found some insights and enjoyment reading up about this.

If you liked that, you might like this!

Julian Jaynes has a theory of consciousness that is pretty radical, but really makes a lot of sense to me.  His definition of consciousness varies a bit from what most people use though (or, said another way: most people don't define 'consciousness' very well".  So keep that in mind while reading.  It gets pretty deep.

I get the sense you might be into that sort of thing though... so have fun!
