..okay.. @Faith-and-Hope @Decadian @Former-Member first one thought of was being told to bury a big container of hot eggs and bacon on a field exercise, as it was time to move, they had allowed for it to be eaten, so had to be thrown out when moving site. Another one was me pilfering cold sausages from a tray every time had to go into cool room while on mess duty, also grabbed a big block of ham was supposed to throw out, hid and ate it in a big hurry lol
Also, doing mess duty, painting hundreds of pieces of bread with hot melted butter and a brush for sandwiches. There was a mess sergeant when in Melbourne we called Sgt Rock, he was a big dark muscly guy who always looked angry ..well he probably was .. we used to make up stories about him, say he was cooking up a storm, well he looked stormy .. and his sidekick who we called Gilligan, a lanky diminutive guy, well there was a resemblance re tv show.
Apparently they went to 'our boozer' en masse re cooks, started making trouble and ended up throwing the juke box over the balcony ..not to be messed with lol
oh as a footnote to tale, apparently cooks were attacked in Vietnam, well by the enemy, and did quite well for themselves ..oh and the usual walk into the mess and be surrounded by the most wonderful displays of food, and it was always because there was some General visiting ..funny same thing happens in mine camps, big boss visits, special food, they prob think its like that all the time lol
