Well here goes!

I've suffered from depression and anxiety for a number of years now. I worked in construction doing FIFO for about 5 years with symptoms developing that I didn't recognise at the time before it was nearly to late! The last 2 years has been one hell of a journey and slowly getting better. The hardest thing I find is being able to speak about issues regarding how you feel is because not many understand and you don't want people feeling worried, gee I have dramas understanding myself at times let alone someone else understanding! I know I'm not alone hence me joining! Thanks.

So glad you found us @Razza. You'll find lots of us here who understand how awful depression can be. You'll be able to chat with people here without having to try to explain what you're really trying to say. It's amazing how depression can just creep up on us.

Keep talking to us. We're a pretty friendly mob. ☺

Re: Well here goes!

Welcome @Razza! Given social pressures I think it's incredibly easy for men to adopt the "yeah I'm alright mate" mentality. I think it takes time to develop these skills and have the ability to speak up.

And @Kurra is right we are a friendly bunch.

Re: Well here goes!

@Razza. Some people will understand depression and PTSD & others won't. That's my experience. I tend to get the judgements that I couldn't have PTSD because I wasn't in the army or assaulted. But I did suffer terribly from it - until I got it treated.
I wonder if you are seeing any specialists who can teach you new coping techniques.
As we know depression is just not just sadness. And anxiety can freeze you to the spot. And we are not always depressed or anxious all the time. But when it does hit us - it's comforting to know our mates are there for us.
I wonder if printing off some brochures on what is depression and anxiety & hiw to help someone with depression and anxiety & handing them to some of your friends might be a great way to start the conversation.
I wish you continued health
