Feeling Guilty

This is my first post, so please excuse me if I can't quite get across what I'm trying to say. But I've read many posts. It's good to read and understand that others are going through the same thing.

I was diagnosed with depression only a few months ago though I've been fighting it for as long as I can can remember.
I hopped on this site and read about others with depression and have read some heart breaking stories about the causes and struggles of depression, the bravery of those never ceases to amaze me.

I don't have a story, I don't have a reason for my depression. I'm so fortunate in those that surround me and the experiences that I've had. My family love me and would support me through anything, my close friends would do the same. I've had privileges that so many others don't get.

And yet I have depression. I have a beautiful life and most days I feel so sad that I can barely function. I feel like there's so much pain radiating through me all the time and I don't know where the source is or how to fix it.

Being depressed doesn't scare me anymore, but I feel like I'm being sufforcated by guilt. Because I have every reason to be happy. And yet most days I don't want to live. And I don't know what to do with that.

Re: Feeling Guilty

Hi @Summer1
I'm glad you found our forum and that even just reading you've already found it helpful. Please don't suffocate yourself with guilt. Depression can affect anyone, no matter how fortunate or unfortunate their prior life may have been. It can affect the rich and the poor, those in high places and the ordinary people living ordinary lives. You certainly don't need to have a story to experience depression.

If you haven't already done so please make an appointment and talk about how you've been feeling. As the doctor for a mental health plan so you can access a psychologist on Medicare otherwise it can become quite costly.

Depression is a treatable condition and with the right medical help you can start working towards recovery.

Please keep talking to us, asking questions anf joining in the general chit chat with people who have a good understanding of how hard it must for you at the moment.

Take care. I look forward to hearing from you again soon. 💕🎶

Re: Feeling Guilty

@Summer1. I'm so glad you chose to share a post. That's not always easy to do.
As @Kurra said - depression or any other MI has no boundary as to who it affects. Yes with some people you can see a trauma that has occurred or a physical injury that may be the start of their MI.
But there are different types of depression. My depression is called Situational Depression - which basically means - something sets it off. I'm super sensitive to stress.
With some people there is a very obvious chemical imbalance going on in the brain. So it can be good to know why depression may have occurred - so the specialists can work out what medication or therapy may work best.
You say you have recently been diagnosed. I wonder who gave you that diagnosis - a gp, psychologist or a psychiatrist. Have they mentioned anything about your chemical levels - which one may be out of balance? Or are they going to try to work it out by trying different anti depressants on you?
Even with my depression - AD's have helped me in the past. Therapy is now my biggest helper. Rebuilding my brain from negative to positive thinking.
What treatment are you currently receiving?
I'm glad you have family and friends supporting you. It makes a big difference. Like you I also have that support.
Now all you need is professional support and over time you will start feeling better.
I hope you haven't found my questions too intrusive.
